Project Introduction - Leadership In Governance

Chapter 1 - Project Introduction

Human beings are the most precious part of the organization and the effective utilization of the capacity of human resources depends upon management.

Management can get the results from the people in the organization in two ways: (i) by exercise of authority vested in it, or (ii) by winning support of the people. Out of these, the second method is better as it has a lasting effect over the people’s motivation. However, it is only possible when a manager becomes their leader in the real sense to influence their behaviour in desired direction. This leadership is an essential ingredient for successful organization. The successful organization has one major attribute that sets it apart from unsuccessful organization that is dynamic and effective leadership. Leadership involves the exercise of influence for a purpose - to attain the defined group or organizational goals. In other words, leaders focus on altering those actions or attitudes of their subordinates that are related to specific goals.

Leadership is a very important topic. So this project is a study on some Indian political leaders.

1.2 Aim/Objectives of the Project

The main objectives of the project are:

  • To understand the concepts and theories of leadership.
  • To study about Indian political leaders.
  • To study about two big Indian political parties (BJP and Congress)

1.3 Methodology

Research methodology is a way to systematically solve the research problems. Research for this project was primarily focused on second source-published information.

The sources of secondary data were the books and journals on Management, Leadership, and Human Resource Management. The other source for collecting the information on Leadership is through various Websites, which the author has surfed to collect the relevant information. Online references of press articles, commentaries and leadership white papers, provided a wealth of information and influence in shaping the thinking behind the chapters of this project.

1.4 Limitations

The following may be the perceived limitations of the proposed study:

  • Secondary data is used for this project because due to time constraint it was not possible to collect primary data using interviews or questionnaires.
  • Research will be done only on four Indian political leaders (Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Sharad Pawar, Mr. R. R. Patil, and Mr. Narendra Modi)
