Testing

The testing of the system was crucial and many errors were discovered throughout the implementation phase where they were fixed.

Black box testing is the act of testing without the knowledge of the internal workings of the item being tested. It is therefore advised that it should not be performed by the author of the system.

Black box testing was used throughout the implementation with numerous users. It was mainly the internal system that was tested in this manner however due to the fact that the website is currently almost entirely information based. Following Table below lists some examples of the tests that were performed.

Performance

When tested in a 56k landline modem, the content of the page and links were displayed immediately, as they are essentially text links with graphical backgrounds. The graphics took about 15 seconds to load. This indicates that the speed of loading is acceptable.

Another test was to test the inputs and outputs of the system. Tests were also performed on outputs from the database.

Compatibility

The website was tested on all major browsers, and different operating systems and three different resolutions. The following browsers rendered the page perfectly:

Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape

OS: Windows 98, 2000, XP, Solaris, Linux, Unix
